  17 <p>This command removes &quot;extraneous&quot; packages.  If a package name is
  18 provided, then only packages matching one of the supplied names are
  19 removed.</p>
  20 <p>Extraneous packages are packages that are not listed on the parent
  21 package&#39;s dependencies list.</p>
  22 <p>If the <code>--production</code> flag is specified or the <code>NODE_ENV</code> environment
  23 variable is set to <code>production</code>, this command will remove the packages
  24 specified in your <code>devDependencies</code>. Setting <code>--production=false</code> will
  25 negate <code>NODE_ENV</code> being set to <code>production</code>.</p>
